CANTON —

A part-time Dellroy police officer is facing charges that he abused two of his girlfriend’s young children with a Taser.

Kevin L. McCann, 47, of 10188 Radmoor St. NW in Lawrence Township, was charged with two counts of felonious assault and two counts of felony child endangering.

The mother of the children, Christina L. Robinson, 22, of the same address, was charged with four counts of felony child endangering.

McCann and Robinson denied the charges Wednesday at their arraignments in Stark County Common Pleas Court.

Both remain in the Stark County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond. Their cases are assigned to Judge John G. Haas.

ABUSE ALLEGED

McCann used a Taser on Robinson’s 3-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son this summer, according to the indictment. He and Robinson also are accused of abusing the children or aiding and abetting another in so doing.

Also, Robinson, who was convicted of misdemeanor child endangering in Barberton in 2007, violated her parental duty by creating a substantial risk to the health or safety of the children, according to the indictment.

Lawrence Township Police Chief Mark Brink said he doesn’t believe the children were shocked with the Taser, but declined to give more details.

The abuse came to light after the children were taken to Akron Children’s Hospital with marks and bruises, according to a civil complaint filed by authorities in Stark County Family Court in August.

The oldest child told investigators that her mother’s boyfriend, McCann, hit her on the butt with a black wooden paddle and pinched her with needles and a “black pinchy thing,” according to the complaint.

The complaint doesn’t mention a Taser, but the “injuries and marks on the children are consistent with an apparatus or a weapon like a Taser,” said Michael Vaccaro, legal counsel for the Stark County Department of Job and Family Services.

He declined to comment on whether the alleged abuse involved electric shock.

The two children identified as victims in the criminal case, and a younger sibling, have been placed with a relative and remain under the agency’s protective supervision, Vaccaro said. Their father lives in Akron.

STILL JAILED

When arrested last week, McCann listed his occupation as a police officer in the Carroll County village of Dellroy. Officials there were not immediately available for comment Wednesday on McCann’s status.

Brink said that he understands McCann to be a part-time officer and that he doesn’t believe the Taser was McCann’s official duty weapon.

Robinson works as a nursing assistant in a retirement community, according to jail records.

McCann’s attorney, Patrick Cusma, declined to comment on the allegations, saying he had just been assigned to the case.

The Stark County Public Defender’s Office represents Robinson. Assistant Public Defender Jean Madden said she couldn’t comment on Robinson’s version of the allegations, having not seen the evidence.

How the Taser allegedly was used, and the exact nature of Robinson’s relationship with McCann, are unclear, Madden added.

Depression

My life revolves around you, my emotions ripped up and torn down with every touching moment and torrential argument, and still I take blame. My self confidence has been worn down, shredded by your inability to realize that I have feelings time and time again. I stand in the cold feeling nothing but the numbness of being abandoned too many times before, wondering how soon the end will come. The egg shells under my feet have turned to glass, the love in my heart turned to fear, but still I am the one to try to stitch what is left back together. I don't even want love or acceptance anymore, just for the pain that always manages to surface just after an inkling of hope arises to not hurt so deeply anymore.

Faux Skull Candy Headphones

So, Miss Paige and I were out at WalMart today (because we really are those type of people) and there are these boys' shirts that have awesome headphones free with purchase. The shirts were only ten dollars. Any one who knows me knows I've been wanting Skull Candy Headphones ever since they came out, but these ones are close enough. Even the logo looks the same. The brand is actually GWP Sport, same as the shirt they came on, though they don't seem to have a website that functions.

SPOILER ALERT - Warehouse 13

I love Warehouse 13. The season finale was such a cliff hanger, I have no idea what will happen next. Will Artie live? If he had the Phoenix, who will die in his place; Leena? Claudia? Was Leena really brainwashed, or is she just a back stabber? Will MacPherson get away?

If you haven't seen the show, you can watch full episodes on SciFi (I refuse to call it SyFy) or read up about it on the forums.

Play Quake III Arena With Me

Quake III Arena is one of my all time favourite games. My favourite server is the Vogon Anarchy server. Everything is sped up, you have constant regen, and when you fall to your doom, you're simply transported back on the map somewhere. I always use a rocket launcher; rocket jumps are god. To play on my favourite server you need the following; a valid copy of Quake III Arena, the QIIIA Point Release v. 1.32, Punkbuster for QIIIA, and the URL Game Starter is optional.

Third Eye Blind's New Album Ursa Major

Another one! If they keep this up, I'll go nuts. This one is a twelve-track dealie instead of a three-track EP (Red Star). Yet another thing I have to save up for.

These are two of their new t-shirts. I really like the purple one with my favourite quotation from Why Can't You Be.

America's Best Dance Crew

Grats to We Are Heroes!!

The first all female group to win ABDC. I love it!

I was voting for them and Vogue Evolution the whole time.

Vogue Evolution is a group of for homosexual men, and one transgender woman. I was SO SAD that they weren't still in the running for Madonna's voguing dance. They would have killed it.

Hallowe'en Parties and Such

Well, have an awesome Vampire Ball to go to. Miss Paige is going, too. She's going as a vampire, of course. I really haven't made up my mind what I want to do yet. Hot Topic has a fantastic selection of Alice costumes. There's even a Rorschach costume, which is funny, because I just saw Watchmen. Unfortunately, I'm a big lady, so I don't believe that I'd be able to wear any costumes from Hot Topic. The ideas are fun, though.

Diagnosis: Ill

Well, I finally had that damned appointment (six fucking weeks of waiting!) and I've been diagnosed with all sorts of crap that I don't want to be on meds for. It's going to be difficult. Really difficult. I don't go in for treatment until the end of the month. The waiting is killing me, but what else can I do?

Also, the Nethernet is down. Permanently.

For whatever reason, dA won't let me post journals and I can't login to Gaia.

Nothing seems to be working today...

Can't put pictures on my flickr that I need to do so I can upload pics onto Ravelry, so I'm posting my sock pictures on my blog. Not this one, though...

The Nethernet is Down

According to The Nethernet Wiki, "Game Over; GameLayers announces The Nethernet is fun, but it’s too expensive for us to fix and maintain."

So sad!! I'll be waiting for it to come out again eventually.

Busy Knitting and a Silly Story

So, I've been totally busy knitting and crocheting for my swap partner. Here's what went out.

  • Bound book of Crocheting the Lorenz Manifold
  • Crocheted pi plushie
  • Crocheted laptop sleeve
  • Pattern for knitted laptop sleeve
  • Elfin-Bride/Gothlet pattern
  • Rainbow bead earrrings
  • Tiny tea cat-statue
  • Cartoon kitty patch
  • Lots of little notes
  • Fisherman's one pound skein of wool
  • Skein of blue, brown, and white Patons wool

What I got from my partner:

  • Sun Chips Recycled Pencil bag
  • Recycled plastic pencil case
  • Wooden eye-balls
  • A crow
  • Plastic spider
  • Mechanical pencil that looks like a standard wooden No. 2 pencil
  • Bar of Ghiradelli chocolate raspberry bar that melted
  • Small book of graph paper
  • Beautiful Noro Kureyon Sock yarn
  • Three little skull ornaments
  • A little metal bead sort of thing, that I know I'm going to use as a purse-flap-weight
  • A little skull sticker

And now, a silly story.

So, I'm sitting around with Tatiana, Christopher, and Tiffani. Tatiana is putting on some of my vanilla lace lotion.

Tatiana says, "I smell pretty!"
I say, "Yeah, you do! Oh, man, you smell like a French--"
Christopher cuts me off, "Hey! Watch your language around the kids! You cannot call her that!"
I say, "What? A French-vanilla cappuccino?"
"That is not what I thought you were going to say."
